We simply love this restaurant.Great food, best service. Cool oriental atmosphere.Very family friendly.
I dine at Indian restaurants almost 4 days in a week and Akbar has been my most favorite hang out place. Their Kebabs are to dye for as they are presented on a sizzling platter. The humble staff is at your prompt service which makes the visit all the more special. It was 1st time in year and a half that I have been in NJ, that I was invited for a wedding and a baby shower in 2 consecutive weeks to Akbar Restaurant and I was actually thrilled to be in those party rooms, which I always saw occupied. I made a special dietary request, knowing it would be turned down. But to my surprise they said "YES we can" and served it to me. I was just one of the 300 - 400 guests in that party and they traced me to serve me my special food. Unlike lot of other catering halls in the vicinity, here you find waiters who can actually communicate and don't just say "yes" or "no". I happened to meet the General Manager and the Owners in my first visit since they were always around in the lobby and party halls making things happen and always ready to help the guests. During my second visit I received the consistent excellent service from these professional waiters and delicious food. Cheerss !!!!! to Akbar restaurant for there excellent service and great food... keep it up guys....

This restaurant is definitely one of my favorite Indian restaurants in the Tri-State area. I remember my mom telling me about how she used to go to the Akbar in New York City, when they had a location there. I love how personable the service is and how they make you feel like being there is an experience, not simply just a place to enjoy a nice meal. All the food was superb, I highly recommend ordering their lamb chops. I was impressed with the waiters knowledge on wine pairings and I ended up with a bottle that I was very pleased with. I was dining with some vegetarians and they had no problem finding dishes that would accommodate their preferences. I ordered a variety of ice creams for desert, they were delicious! All in all, I will be coming back to this restaurant. It is a great place to come with your family, friends, or even on a date. On holidays, I advise everyone to make reservations, because the last time I was here on Mothers Day, I had to wait a bit for a table. They have improved alot recently and I look forward to dining there again!
My friend had her sweet sixteen celebrations here. The food is simply outstanding. I love the banquet halls. It really gives any event an elegant touch and the food is delicious.

Lovely setting, delicious food, great service.Try their Sunday night buffet to sample many different varieties of Indian food.
I have been to Akbar many a time and always had a good experience.
Good stuff! The buffet was a bit low on selection but high on quality and taste. Definitely something for everybody. Nice atmosphere for an evening out - service was extremely attentive.
"Another favourite with foodies is the chain of Akbar restaurants. Co-owned by Meenakshi Malhotra, it is part of a well regarded Manhattan establishment. It also remains associated with its sister offshoot in Queens." The Edison establishment is cenred around a long rectangular fountain. Its prices are reasonable and the management stresses on impeccable service. The menu includes north Indian starters like vegetable pakoras, papdi chaat, garlic shrimp or paneer pakora. Its entrees include the very popular tandoor mixed grill, Kashmiri rogan josh and, of course, the assortment of breads. The mughlai fare, as Malhotra puts it, is authentic and developed from the original recipes. "The art of northern Indian style cooking is in its preparation using a delicate balance of herbs and spices. One ingredient should never dominate the dish," she says, pointing out that none of this was possible without the able assistance of her retinue of chefs. Whether it be a la carte or the tandoori, she has a specialist in the kitchen to ensure standards do not drop. The kitchen kings include Harpal Singh, Karan Singh, Rehman, Sambaji, Kulkarni, Pushkar and Lamba, some of whom are graduates of Culinary College and therefore bring with them the highest professional credentials. "Certain dishes like chicken malai kabab, prawn kabab masala were introduced by Akbar for the first time in New York. Only we can claim 20 years of pleasing both Indian and American palates," Malhotra adds."
